home to my recent line of "Urban Transit Wear." My name is Erik Kittlaus. I print t-shirts. For a span of five years or so I lived in the city without a car. My primary means of transport were the L and my mountain bike. (Cabs when lazy). As a result I've become intimately aware of, and smitten with Chicago's alternative transit.
Those of us that use these forms of transit are quickly acquainted with the signage and symbols associated therein. They become deeply ingrained in our daily lives. Personally, I'm very drawn to these. I think they're really cool. And I think they belong on a t-shirt.
And so it is.
It's been made clear to me you guys want choice. You want your stop, you want your color, and you want your choice of shirt style. From a production standpoint this is a nightmare. One-off screen printing is ridiculously laborious (screen set up, ink application, and follow-up screen cleaning). Nobody does this.
In this industry one-off production is handled with iron-on transfer technology. That process is well suited for this sort of thing. Unfortunately that doesn't work for me. Iron-on technology rankles me. There's something about the shininess of the iron-ons that comes off looking cheap in my opinion. I disdain them. For this reason I decided to offer one-off screen prints. It's the hard way, but for me it's the best way.
For the custom shirts, each and every L stop (all 144) are now available for custom print. Argyle, Pulaski... it's all fair game.
So from here on out I serve em up custom. For a few extra bucks you get the full range of options - shirt style, color, and choice of art (EL train art).
Each of the following seven lines are represented - Kimball (Brown Line), Howard (Red Line), O'Hare (Blue Line), Linden (Purple Line), Skokie (Yellow Line), Midway (Orange Line), and Harlem (Green Line).
Send me an email. I'll put you on my mailer list. That way you'll be the first to know about my random sales... and new design offerings.
One last thing: if you like what you see here would it be too much to ask that you forward this on to 3 friends? Word-of-mouth is what I rely on around here. Thanks for your time.
